Subsection 73-18-8(5) states that vessels with inboard gasoline engines should be equipped with a carburetor backfire control device. The board may adopt rules conforming with the requirements of safety equipment mentioned in statute that govern specifications for the use of safety equipment.

This control device (carburetor backfire flame control) will disperse backfire and flame outside the vessel in a manner that the flame will not endanger the vessel or passengers. For safety reasons, this rule should be continued.
